To advance its goal of reaching the 56 percent of residents who have never been tested for HIV, the Staten Island Ryan White HIV CARE Network is distributing acircStatus Checkacirc postcards with information on free testing locations.
acircStaten Island may have the lowest HIV rates, but is has the highest HIV-related mortality rates,acirc said Karina Ryan, CARE Network coordinator. acircThe message of HIV testing and prevention is a message that must be spread to all Staten Islanders.acirc
The cards, in English and Spanish, include the statement: acircMan, Woman, Gay, Straight, Young, Old. Youacircve gotta get tested for HIV. Found early itacircs treatable. Ignore it, and itacircs deadly.acirc They will be given out by community groups, faith-based organizations, and businesses. Those wanting to help distribute the educational materials are asked to telephone the CARE Network at 718-808-1414.
